Dental Curettes AF Type (Fig. 3/4): Superior Reach for Anterior Periodontal Therapy
When it comes to the treatment of advanced periodontal disease, the standard instruments fail to get to the root of the deep pockets. The AF Type (After-Five) Dental Curette Fig. 3/4 is a unique instrument that is designed to allow access to pockets in the periodontal system which are greater than 5mm deep. Specifically designed to treat anterior teeth, the "After-Five" model will enable clinicians to conduct extensive subgingival scaling and root planning in areas which were previously not accessible by conventional Gracey models.
The "After-Five" Engineering Advantage
The AF Type Fig. 3/4 is a modification of the traditional Gracey 3/4 to tackle the issues of deep-pocket therapy. It has two important enhancements to the structure:
-
The 3-millimetre Extended Terminal Shank Terminal shank has been lengthened by 3mm when compared with conventional curettes. 1 This extension allows the device to access the upper portion of the deep pockets found on canines and incisors while avoiding the handpiece or the upper shank obscuring the tooth's incisal edge.
-
10% Thinner Blade to facilitate easier entry into constricted, tight, or inflamed gingivas the blade is widened by 10 per cent. 2 . This permits a less painful entrance into the sulcus and better acclimatisation to the smaller roots that are typical of anterior dentition.
Premium Stainless Steel Construction
Tactile sensitivity and durability are the primary characteristics that define our AF Type curettes. Made from top-quality Stainless Steel, these instruments provide professional-grade performance:
- Tactile Feedback Optimal: The refined stainless steel emits subtle vibrations, making it possible for the dentist to distinguish between the calculus of residual as well as the smooth, sloughed cementum on the root surface.
- Outstanding Edge Retention. These blades can be tempered by vacuum to keep an edge that is razor-sharp, which ensures efficient removal of calculus and biofilm with fewer strokes.
- Complete sterilization Reliability: Highly resistant to pitting and corrosion, the instruments are built to withstand the daily use of ultrasonic cleaners and autoclave cycles with high temperatures.
Core Clinical Applications
The AF Type Fig. 3/4 is a vital instrument for specific anterior therapy:
- Deep Anterior Scaling is specifically designed for the faces and lingual surfaces of canines and incisors with pockets that are deeper than 5mm.
- Root Planning: Perfect for smoothing roots in deep periodontal lesions to facilitate tissue reconnect.
- Narrow Sulcus access: This 10% thinner blade is ideal for patients who have gum tissue that is tight or with an overcrowded anterior tooth.
- Recession Management allows for precise debridement at the cementoenamel joint (CEJ) with the least amount of tissue loss.
