Measuring and Marking Instruments

35 products

In breast and facial surgery the marking is done before the patient is anaesthetised, and once the incision follows it there is no going back. Peak Surgicals stocks 27 measuring and marking patterns for plastic surgery, from $11.00, in German stainless steel and CE marked and built under ISO 13485. Compare the full range in the grid below.

Why the Marking Decides the Result

Marking has to happen with the patient upright because that is the position the result will be judged in. Breast tissue sits differently standing than lying down, and a nipple position marked on a supine patient will not be where it appeared to be once she stands. So the markings are made before the operation, in the position that matters, and everything that follows is executed against them.

That makes the marking instrument responsible for the outcome in a way the cutting instrument is not. A surgeon can adjust a dissection; nobody can adjust a nipple position that was marked two centimetres off. The instruments here exist to remove judgement from that step: a fixed-diameter areola marker cuts the same circle every time, and a caliper set to a distance reproduces that distance on the other side without the operator estimating it.

Areola and Breast Reduction Markers

Areola markers are the clearest example. They are fixed-diameter cutting rings that stamp a circle of known size, and Peak supplies them at 36mm, 40mm, 42mm and 45mm individually, plus Areola Markers Set of 4 ($108.90) covering the range. Freeman Areola Marker ($27.50) and Freeman Areola Marker 42mm ($22.00) carry that pattern, and Freeman Double Ended Areola Instrument ($22.00) puts two diameters on one handle. Ackerman Areola Marker ($24.92) and Grossman Areola Breast Marker ($33.00) offer alternative configurations.

Reduction and mastopexy need pattern markers rather than circles. McKissock Keyhole Breast Reduction Marker ($19.80) lays out the keyhole pattern that defines the new nipple position and the vertical limbs beneath it, and McKissock Mammaplasty Caliper ($66.00) measures the distances that pattern depends on. Galvao Nipple Marker ($49.50) marks the nipple site itself.

Calipers, Rulers and Facial Markers

Calipers do the measuring that marking depends on. A caliper set to a distance holds it, which is what makes the second side match the first: Castroviejo Caliper ($19.80), Castroviejo Caliper 9cm ($33.00) and Castroviejo Epker Caliper 18cm Angled ($22.00) cover the fine range, with Jameson Measuring Caliper ($30.80), Ginsberg Caliper ($22.00) and Thorpe Caliper ($27.50) extending it. Stainless Steel Ruler ($11.00) and Moltgen Flexometer 24cm ($71.50) handle straight and contoured measurement, the flexometer following a curved surface a rigid ruler cannot.

Facial and rhinoplasty work has its own patterns. Marten FaceLift Marker 15cm ($35.64) and Dassumpcao FaceLift Marker ($19.80) lay out facelift incision lines, Lockwood Abdominal Flap Demarcator ($38.50) marks abdominoplasty flaps, and Eckhoff Mapping Pen ($53.90) transfers markings freehand. Sheen Cartilage Grid ($27.50), Adson Cartilage Measuring Forceps ($13.20) and Tebbetts Alar Stabilizing ($33.00) measure and position cartilage grafts in rhinoplasty.

Material, Reprocessing and Certification

Every pattern is forged from German stainless steel and passivated for corrosion resistance across repeated cycles. Marking and measuring instruments are inspected against accuracy rather than sharpness, and the check differs by type: on areola markers confirm the cutting ring is complete, circular and unburred, because a ring that has flattened on one side no longer stamps a circle; on calipers close the tips fully and confirm they meet at zero with no gap, then check the scale is legible and the locking mechanism holds a set distance without drift; and on rulers and flexometers confirm the graduations are intact and the flexometer still returns to straight. Clean immediately with a neutral-pH enzymatic solution, then rinse with deionised water and dry fully, following the reprocessing instructions supplied.

These are Class I reusable devices, supplied non-sterile, CE marked and built under ISO 13485, with a one-year manufacturing warranty. We ship at MOQ 1 with free shipping over $99, and OEM production is available for distributors. See Areola Markers and Breast Retractors for the wider breast ran.
