Entropion Forceps

2 products

An entropion forceps has to do two opposite things at once: hold the eyelid firmly enough to work on it, and keep every part of that grip away from the globe behind it. Peak Surgicals stocks Desmarres Entropion Forceps (PS-S-00011, $27.50) and Wildes Entropion Forceps in multiple sizes ($27.50), CE marked and built under ISO 13485. Compare both patterns in the grid below.

Plate Protects, Rim Presents

The clamp works because its two jaws are not the same shape. One arm carries a solid plate that sits against the conjunctiva and acts as a backing surface, so pressure spreads across it rather than transmitting to the eye. The opposing arm carries an open rim, and the opening is the point: lid tissue is held around the edge while the area to be repaired stays exposed inside it. Plate protects, rim presents.

That is why the pattern is described as ring-and-disk, and why the same device class appears in catalogues under three names. Entropion forceps, chalazion clamp and Downes lid clamp are the same instrument working on different indications, which is worth knowing when a theatre list covers both entropion repair and chalazion excision. The clamp everts and stabilises the lid so the hands are free; it does not perform the repair itself.

Desmarres and Wildes: Screw Lock and Size

Desmarres Entropion Forceps (PS-S-00011, $27.50) is the classic pattern, a spring handle with a screw that sets and holds the closing pressure so the grip does not depend on the hand. That matters through a procedure where the lid has to stay everted while cutting, suturing and cautery all happen in the same small field.

Wildes Entropion Forceps ($27.50) is supplied in multiple sizes, and size is the practical variable here rather than mechanism: an upper lid and a lower lid present different tarsal dimensions, and a plate that overhangs the tarsus is a plate pressing on tissue it should not touch. Both patterns ship at MOQ 1.

Material, Reprocessing and Certification

Both patterns are forged from German stainless steel and passivated for corrosion resistance across repeated cycles. The inspection point is the plate face and the screw: run a gloved finger across the plate to check for burrs or pitting, because that surface sits directly against conjunctiva, and turn the screw through its full travel to confirm it sets and holds without slipping. Check the two arms close in alignment, since a plate that meets the rim off-centre puts uneven pressure through the lid. Clean immediately with a neutral-pH enzymatic solution, working around the screw thread and under the plate, then rinse with deionised water and dry fully before autoclaving at 134°C.

These are Class I reusable devices, CE marked and built under ISO 13485, with a one-year manufacturing warranty. We ship at MOQ 1 with free shipping over $99, and OEM production is available for distributors. See Cyst Forceps for chalazion patterns, or browse all Ophthalmology Instruments.
