Why Blade Width Is a Lighting Problem

An implant pocket is a cavity dissected under skin and glandular tissue, and its far wall is the part that matters. The incision is small and deliberately placed where the scar will be least visible, so the working end of the instrument is always further from the hand than in an open procedure, and the field the surgeon needs to inspect is the one furthest from the light.

That is why blade geometry here is a lighting problem as much as a retraction one. A blade wide enough to hold the pocket open also blocks the only route light has into it, and a narrow blade that lets light past does not hold the tissue back. Confirm the blade is flat and unwarped, since a warped blade rocks rather than seating and transfers its load to one edge. Clean immediately with a neutral-pH enzymatic solution, then rinse with deionised water and dry fully, following the reprocessing instructions supplied.
