An epilation forceps is judged on one thing: whether the lash comes out whole. Peak Surgicals stocks four patterns for ophthalmic use, from Epilation Forceps Delicate (PS-J-141, $13.81) to Epilation Forceps 12cm (PS-J-140, $16.50), in German stainless steel, CE marked and built under ISO 13485. Compare all four patterns in the grid below.
Why a Broken Lash Is Worse Than the Original
A broken cilium is worse for the cornea than the lash it replaced. Removing a misdirected lash relieves irritation only while the follicle is empty, and regrowth takes three to six weeks; but a lash that snaps instead of extracting leaves a short, stiff stub that abrades the ocular surface more aggressively than a full-length lash did. Grip is not a comfort feature on this instrument. It is the whole function.
That is why the tips are flat and horizontally serrated rather than pointed. A pointed tip concentrates force on a narrow band of the shaft and shears it; a broad serrated face holds along the length of the lash so traction pulls the follicle rather than cutting the shaft. The same principle sets closing pressure: the spring has to hold a hair reliably without the fingers squeezing hard enough to slip. We supply every pattern at MOQ 1.
Length, and Where the Hand Has to Sit
Length is the practical variable, and it is set by where the operator's hand has to sit. Most epilation is done at the slit lamp, so the forceps has to reach the lid margin with the patient's forehead against the headrest and the operator's hand clear of the optics. Epilation Forceps 10cm (PS-J-139, $14.30) suits close work with the hand supported, and Epilation Forceps 12cm (PS-J-140, $16.50) adds reach where the approach angle is tighter.
Epilation Forceps Delicate (PS-J-141, $13.81) narrows the tip for isolated lashes and for distichiasis, where the extra row emerges at the meibomian orifices behind the normal lashes. A fine tip reaches those without disturbing the row in front.
Material, Reprocessing and Certification
Every pattern is forged from German stainless steel and passivated for corrosion resistance across repeated cycles. The inspection point is the tip faces, and it should be checked under magnification rather than by eye: hold the tips closed against light and confirm they meet flush along their full width with no daylight and no lateral offset, then check the serrations for flattening. A tip that has worn smooth or meets unevenly will break lashes instead of extracting them, and that failure is not obvious until it happens on a patient. Clean immediately with a neutral-pH enzymatic solution and a soft brush across the serrated faces, then rinse with deionised water and dry fully before autoclaving at 134°C.
