A cervical biopsy punch does not grasp tissue. It excises a defined piece of it, and the size of that piece is what decides whether the pathologist can report on it. Peak Surgicals stocks six cervical biopsy punch patterns, in German stainless steel and CE marked and built under ISO 13485. Compare all six patterns in the grid below.
Bite Dimensions Decide the Specimen
Bite dimensions are the specification that matters most, because they set the volume of tissue the punch removes in a single closure. A 2 × 5mm bite takes a narrow, deep specimen; a 3 × 8mm bite takes a broader one. Neither is universally correct: a specimen too small may not reach the transformation zone or may fragment during processing, and one larger than the lesion requires takes healthy cervix with it.
Baby Tischler Biopsy Punch Forceps (PS-BTBPF-00193, $49.50) carries a 2 × 5mm bite on a 295mm shaft, which suits targeted sampling where the colposcopically identified area is small. Eppendorf Biopsy Punch Forceps (PS-EBPF-00189, $44.00) takes a 3 × 8mm bite on a shorter 200mm shaft. The cutting action itself is what separates a punch from every other forceps on a gynecology tray: the jaws close through the tissue rather than onto it, leaving a clean specimen edge for the pathologist. We supply every pattern at MOQ 1.
Jaw Orientation and Reach
Jaw orientation decides which part of the cervix a punch can reach. A straight jaw takes a specimen directly ahead of the shaft and suits an anterior or accessible lesion. Wittner Cervical Biopsy Punch (PS-WCBP-00194, $33.00) angles its jaws to the side on a 230mm shaft, which reaches the lateral cervix without the shaft obscuring the colposcopic view of the site being sampled.
Van Doren Cervical Biopsy Punch Forceps (PS-VDCBPF-00192, $22.00) combines a curved basket jaw with angled shanks over 267mm, so the working end approaches at an angle the hand does not have to hold. Kevorkian Biopsy Punch Forceps (PS-KBPF-00190, $36.30) and Tischler Morgan Biopsy Punch Forceps (PS-TMBPF-00191, $203.50) complete the range with their own jaw configurations. Length is the second variable: a longer shaft keeps the hand clear of the speculum and the colposcope, a shorter one gives more direct control.
Material, Reprocessing and Certification
Every pattern is forged from German stainless steel and passivated for corrosion resistance across repeated cycles. The inspection point is the cutting rim and the jaw closure, and it should be checked under magnification: hold the jaws closed to light and confirm they meet along the full cutting edge with no daylight, then examine the rim for blunting or a nick, because a punch that crushes instead of cutting produces a specimen the pathologist cannot interpret. Work the handle through full travel and confirm the jaws open and close without binding. Clean immediately with a neutral-pH enzymatic solution, brushing tissue out of the basket or cup before it dries, then rinse with deionised water and dry fully before autoclaving at 134°C.
