Sterilization Baskets and Trays

Sterilization baskets and trays hold surgical instruments in an organized, open-structure carrier while they are cleaned and steam sterilized. The open construction lets water, detergent and steam reach every instrument. This collection covers wire baskets, wire mesh trays, perforated baskets and a lidded endoscope basket.

What’s in This Collection

Wire and wire mesh. The Stainless Steel Surgical Instrument Wire Basket (265 × 125 × 30 mm) is a compact carrier for small sets. The Wire Mesh Tray suits larger instrument groups. The Classic Crimped Wire Mesh Sterilization Baskets and the Wire Mesh Sterilization Baskets – 2-Piece Set have tilted handles for lifting and carrying.

Perforated baskets. The Side Perforated, Flat Base basket and the Side Perforated Woven Wire Base basket typically hold small instruments more securely than open mesh while still allowing circulation.

Endoscope basket. The Endoscope Sterilization Basket with Lid (640 × 150 × 77 mm) is sized for long, slender instruments. Confirm compatibility with your endoscope and reprocessing method, because the endoscope manufacturer’s instructions govern reprocessing.

What a Basket Does and Doesn’t Do

A basket organizes and protects instruments during processing. It is not a sterile barrier. After the cycle, instruments must be wrapped, pouched or placed in a container system so they stay sterile in storage.

Choosing a Basket

Match the basket to the load: small baskets for single instruments or small sets, larger trays for full sets, and perforated baskets for small items that could fall through open mesh. Load instruments loosely, open hinged instruments and don’t overload. Place heavier instruments at the bottom.

Care

Inspect baskets before each use for bent mesh, sharp wire ends or corrosion. Clean them regularly, dry them fully and replace any that are damaged.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a sterilization basket used for?
It holds instruments in an open-structure carrier during cleaning and steam sterilization so water, detergent and steam reach all surfaces.

Does a sterilization basket keep instruments sterile?
No. Sterility after the cycle depends on the sterile barrier, such as a wrap, pouch or container system.

What’s the difference between a wire mesh basket and a perforated basket?
Wire mesh is more open and drains freely. Perforated baskets have solid sides with holes, which typically hold small instruments more securely.

How do I load a sterilization basket?
Load instruments loosely, open hinged instruments, avoid overloading and place heavier instruments at the bottom.

Can I use a basket for endoscopes?
Use the lidded endoscope basket only if it is compatible with your endoscope and reprocessing method. Follow the endoscope manufacturer’s instructions.

How often should baskets be replaced?
Inspect them before each use and replace any with bent mesh, sharp wire ends or corrosion
