Dental Clinic Curettes AF Type (Fig. 15/16): Specialised Posterior Precision

In the complex world of periodontal debridement AF type (After-Five), the Dental Curette, Fig. 15/16, is a crucial instrument for treating deeper-seated calculus in those posterior regions.1 Specifically altered from the standard Gracey design The "After-Five" series is engineered to access root surfaces in pockets that are 5mm or greater. Fig. 15/16 is the choice of a dentist for mesial surfaces on posterior teeth, which combine an extended reach with the most advanced tooth geometry.

The AF (After-Five) Advantage

"AF" is the designation used to describe an instrument "AF" designation signifies a specific design change on the instrument's shank created to take advantage of the limitations of the standard:

  • Extra Long Terminal Shank. This shank is 3mm longer than a normal curette, allowing it to pass through the crown and extend in the pocket of periodontal tissue, without extending the margin of gingival.
  • Thinned Working End. The blade's width is reduced by 10% when compared to the standard model, which allows for more easily insertion into tissue that is tight and inflamed and provides better subgingival access.
  • Specific Angulation. The design is similar to the Gracey 11/12 model, but modified by a 15/16 shank angle, which offers better access to the mesial surfaces on molars and premolars in cases where traditional angles may be restricted by the cheek of the patient or the limited opening.

Premium Stainless Steel Composition

Created to withstand the demands that are common in a dental office The curettes are constructed with high-quality Stainless Steel. This makes sure:

  • High-Tactile Sensitivity The refined steel permits the doctor to spot "burnished" calculus and fine root irregularities that traditional instruments might miss.
  • Sharpness Retentive: Blades have been designed to maintain an edge that is razor-sharp through multiple applications, which reduces the number of strokes required and enhances the patient's comfort.
  • Anti-Corrosion: Completely invulnerable to saline, blood, as well as the high-temperature cycles in modern autoclaves.

Key Clinical Applications

The AF Type Fig. 15/16 is a tool for professionals typically employed to:

  1. Depth Posterior Scaling Accessing mesial surfaces on the molars of pockets that exceed 5mm.
  2. Root planing Making a silky smooth root to facilitate the reattachment and reattachment of periodontal ligaments.
  3. Furcation Access Understanding the intricate anatomy and physiology of teeth with multi-rooted roots, where standard shanks aren't long enough.
  4. A Minimally Invasive Debridement. The thin blade decreases tissue distention, which results in faster healing after surgery.
