The Bone Screw Locking Plates Orthopedic Implants set from Peak Surgicals (SKU: PS-BSLPOI-00149) is a veterinary small animal bone plate reference and implant collection of 48 individual stainless steel bone plates across five diameters (1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.4mm, 2.7mm, 3.5mm) and eight plate geometry types — Straight Reconstruction Plates, Straight Compression Plates, Acetabular Plates, T-Type Plates, Neutral Plates, Distal Femoral Compression Plates (left and right), Dynamic Compression Plates (DCP), and Cuttable Plates — all supplied in a Bone Plate Box. The collection provides one plate per size-and-configuration combination, covering the full range of reconstruction, neutralisation, compression, and speciality plate geometries used in small animal long bone fracture fixation, corrective osteotomy, acetabular fracture repair, distal femoral fracture repair, and pancarpal and pantarsal arthrodesis. It is used by veterinary surgeons and veterinary hospitals to maintain a complete plate reference inventory for intraoperative size selection, to stock a full range of plate geometries without sourcing individual plates separately, and as a procurement reference for veterinary orthopaedic distributors.
Straight Reconstruction Plates (1.5mm/20h/100mm, 2.0mm/20h/100mm, 2.4mm/25h/161mm, 2.7mm/20h/160mm, 3.5mm/12h) are elongated plates with multiple holes at close spacing, designed to be contoured in three planes — the reconstruction design allows the plate to be twisted and bent to follow complex curved bone surfaces such as the mandible, pelvis, and complex long bone contours that cannot be matched by straight compression plates. Straight Compression Plates (2.0mm 10h and 8h, 2.4mm 10h and 12h, 2.7mm 10h and 12h) are straight plates with oval dynamic compression holes that allow controlled interfragmentary compression when the load drill guide is used eccentrically. Acetabular Plates (1.5mm/44h, 2.0mm/44h, 2.4mm/64h, 2.7mm/64h, 3.5mm/64h) are large thin malleable plates with many closely spaced holes, specifically designed for fixation of acetabular fractures in small animals — their high hole count and thin profile allow intraoperative contouring to match the curved acetabular surface and accommodate multiple screw positions. T-Type Plates (1.5mm/3+4h, 2.0mm/2+4h, 2.4mm/2+8h, 2.7mm/2+8h, 3.5mm/2+8h) are T-shaped plates providing a vertical shaft and a horizontal head for periarticular and metaphyseal stabilisation where a T-geometry provides better buttressing of comminuted metaphyseal fragments than a straight plate. Neutral Plates (2.0mm/8h/30-70mm, 2.0mm/6h and 7h, 2.4mm/8h/65mm, 2.4mm/6h, 2.7mm/8h) are straight neutralisation plates of standard hole spacing used in bridge plating where the plate spans a comminuted fracture zone without direct reduction, providing relative stability for biological bone healing. Distal Femoral Compression Plates (Left and Right in 2.0mm/16h, 2.4mm/12h, 2.7mm/10h, 3.5mm/13h) are laterally offset plates with a pre-angled head specifically designed to match the anatomy of the distal femoral metaphysis and lateral femoral condyle in small animals — the left and right versions accommodate the lateral approach to each femur. Dynamic Compression Plates (2.0mm/9h/48mm and 8h/43mm, 2.4mm/12h and 14h, 2.7mm/9h/77mm and 8h, 3.5mm/12h and 14h) are classic AO straight oval-hole plates providing both neutralisation and compression function in the standard dynamic compression plate design. Cuttable Plates (1.5mm/27h/150mm, 1.5mm Double T-Type, 2.0mm/50h, 2.4mm/22h/161mm) are elongated or broad plates with closely spaced holes at regular intervals, designed to be cut intraoperatively to any required length for custom-length fixation of unusual bone dimensions.
The five plate diameters span the full patient size range for small animal orthopaedic fixation. The 1.5mm plates (Reconstruction 20h/100mm, Acetabular 44h, T-type 3+4h, Cuttable 27h/150mm and Double T-type) are the smallest veterinary bone plates used in cats, toy breeds, and very small long bones such as the metatarsals and phalanges of small dogs. The 2.0mm plates address the tibiae, radii, and humeri of cats and small dogs under approximately 10kg. The 2.4mm plates cover the mid-range of small dogs and large cats, approximately 8–20kg. The 2.7mm plates address medium dogs approximately 15–30kg across all long bone sites. The 3.5mm plates are used in medium-to-large dogs of 25–50kg or larger for femoral, tibial, and humeral diaphyseal fixation. The breadth of the collection — 48 plates covering all five diameters and eight geometry types in one box — allows the veterinary surgeon to select the appropriate plate for any fracture configuration encountered in routine small animal orthopaedic practice without requiring separate procurement orders for individual plate types.
This Bone Screw Locking Plates set is an implant-only collection — it contains plates but no screws, drill guides, taps, or instruments. It is used alongside or to supplement the instrument and screw sets available from Peak Surgicals. The Complete Orthopedic System for Small Autoclaves (PS-COSSA-00151, $1,758.90) provides the instruments and 100 screws for the 1.5–4.0mm diameter range with autoclave-compatible storage. The Medium Kit 2.7/3.5/4.0mm (PS-VMK-00157, $1,430.00) provides the instruments and 60 screws for the 2.7–4.0mm range with additional reduction and approach instruments. Veterinary practices purchasing this plate collection as a stand-alone set should ensure they have matching drills, taps, and screwdrivers from the appropriate instrument set for each plate diameter in use. The plate box provides organised storage for the full collection; individual plates can be removed for a specific procedure and the box returned to inventory with the remaining plates.

What is included in this set and what is not included?
The Bone Screw Locking Plates Orthopedic Implants set contains 48 individual stainless steel bone plates across five diameters and eight geometry types, stored in a Bone Plate Box. It does not include screws, drill bits, drill guides, tap sleeves, bone taps, screwdrivers, reduction forceps, plate benders, or any other instruments. It is an implant-only collection. Veterinary practices using this plate collection require a separate instrument and screw set for the matching diameters — the Complete Orthopedic System for Small Autoclaves (PS-COSSA-00151, $1,758.90) covers 1.5–4.0mm instruments and screws, and the Medium Kit 2.7/3.5/4.0mm (PS-VMK-00157, $1,430.00) covers 2.7–4.0mm instruments and screws, both available from Peak Surgicals.
What are Acetabular Plates used for in small animals?
Acetabular Plates (1.5mm through 3.5mm in this set) are large thin plates with many closely spaced holes designed specifically for internal fixation of acetabular fractures — fractures of the hip socket of the pelvis. The acetabulum has a complex three-dimensional curvature that requires the plate to be contoured in multiple planes before application. The high hole count in acetabular plates (44 or 64 holes in this set) provides numerous screw placement options to accommodate the irregular fracture lines and the limited bone stock available in the thin acetabular wall, and allows the surgeon to place screws at whatever positions are accessible between fracture lines and the acetabular articular cartilage. Acetabular fracture repair is one of the more technically demanding procedures in small animal orthopaedic surgery and requires the surgeon to select the correct acetabular plate size for the patient based on the preoperative CT or radiographic anatomy of the pelvis.
What is the difference between a DCP, a Straight Compression Plate, and a Neutral Plate?
All three are straight plate designs but differ in their hole geometry and intended mechanical function. A Dynamic Compression Plate (DCP) has oval holes with a sloped outer wall — when the screw is inserted and tightened through an eccentrically placed drill guide (load mode), the spherical screw head slides down the slope of the oval hole, translating the plate relative to the bone and generating axial interfragmentary compression across the fracture. A Straight Compression Plate has a similar oval hole design for compression function and is used for standard diaphyseal fractures where the fragment surfaces can be compressed together. A Neutral Plate has round or standard-oval holes without the DCP ramp geometry — it is used in neutralisation plating, where a lag screw has already created interfragmentary compression across the fracture and the plate is applied in neutralisation mode to protect the lag screw from bending and torsional forces during healing, rather than to generate additional compression.
What are Cuttable Plates used for?
Cuttable Plates (1.5mm/27h/150mm, 1.5mm Double T-type, 2.0mm/50h, 2.4mm/22h/161mm in this set) are elongated plates with closely and uniformly spaced holes designed to be cut to any required length intraoperatively. The hole spacing in cuttable plates is close enough that whatever length is cut, there will always be adequate screw holes at the correct positions relative to the fracture for the surgeon to achieve stable fixation. Cuttable plates are used for: mandibular fracture fixation where the curved mandibular anatomy requires a precisely fitted length; unusual long bone lengths not covered by standard fixed-length plates; pancarpal or pantarsal arthrodesis where the required plate length spans an unusual distance from the radius or tibia to the metacarpals or metatarsals; and cases where multiple plates of different lengths are needed from a single plate blank.
Can individual plates be ordered separately rather than the complete collection?
Individual plates from this collection are available from Peak Surgicals as replacement items by diameter, geometry type, and hole count. Veterinary practices that perform high volumes of specific fracture types — femoral shaft fractures requiring 3.5mm DCP predominantly, or acetabular fractures — may prefer to stock higher quantities of the most-used plate types rather than the balanced one-of-each collection format. OEM manufacturing and custom plate configurations are available for veterinary distributors. Contact Peak Surgicals directly for individual plate pricing and institutional procurement arrangements.
