Orthodontic kits bundle the pliers, cutters and placement instruments a fixed-appliance workflow runs on, sized to how much of that workflow a practice covers. Peak Surgicals supplies six kits, 4, 7, 9 and 11 piece sets, in German stainless steel with tungsten carbide options, from $27.50 to $82.50. Each is CE marked and built under ISO 13485. Compare all six kits in the grid below.
Which Kit Size for Which Practice?
The 4-piece Ligature Cutter, Mathieu and Bracket Height Gauge set ($27.50) covers routine ligature and bonding appointments, the 4-piece TC plier set ($52.44) adds Weingart and wire cutters in tungsten carbide, and the 9-piece ($49.50) and 11-piece ($60.50) kits carry the full bracket-placement and wire-adjustment sequence. Kit size tracks scope, not quality, a general practice placing occasional appliances needs a different tray from a dedicated orthodontic operatory.
The two 4-piece sets answer different questions. The Ligature Cutter, Mathieu and Bracket Height Gauge set ($27.50) is the bonding and tying essentials at the lowest entry point. The TC Plier Set ($52.44) pairs Mathieu with Weingart and wire cutters, all in tungsten carbide — the higher price buys edge retention on the cutting instruments, which is where a steel plier degrades first. For fuller coverage, the 9-piece kit ($49.50) spans bracket placement through wire adjustment, and the 11-piece set ($60.50) extends further. Two 7-piece kits sit at $49.50 and $82.50, the latter reflecting instrument specification rather than count. We supply every kit at MOQ 1.
The Instruments a Fixed-Appliance Tray Runs On
Orthodontic pliers are named for function, and knowing the function tells you what a kit can do. Weingart pliers carry an offset beak built to place and remove archwires in tight interproximal spaces the offset is what lets the beak reach the wire without the handle fouling the adjacent teeth. Mathieu pliers use a self-locking handle so ligatures can be tied and tightened rapidly without maintaining grip pressure through every tie.
Cutting instruments each have one job. A ligature cutter trims the fine wire or elastic ties securing an archwire in its bracket slot. A distal end cutter trims the archwire flush behind the last bracket, and the safety-hold feature retains the cut fragment rather than dropping it into the patient's mouth. A hard wire cutter handles heavier gauge stainless archwire that a ligature cutter would blunt against. Bracket height gauges set vertical bracket position against the incisal edge before bonding — the measurement that determines whether the finished arch tracks correctly.
Tungsten Carbide, Reprocessing and Certification
Tungsten carbide inserts are the specification worth paying for on cutting instruments. Orthodontic wire is hard, and a steel cutting edge rolls over against it long before the plier body wears; carbide holds the edge through cycles that would blunt steel. The TC Plier Set ($52.44) carries inserts across its cutters, which is what separates it from the lower-priced 4-piece set.
Every instrument is forged from German stainless steel, Class I, reusable, CE marked and built under ISO 13485. Cutting edges are the inspection point after each cycle — a rolled edge crushes wire instead of shearing it, leaving a burr that catches soft tissue. Ultrasonic-clean before autoclaving so bonding resin does not set in plier joints. Warranty is one year with return-and-replacement, MOQ is 1 piece, orders over $99 ship free in carton box packing, and OEM marking is available.
