Adson Cartilage Measuring Forceps: Two Uses in One

In rhinoplasty and reconstructive surgery, every second saved in the operating room leads to a better outcome for the patient. The Adson Cartilage Measuring Forceps is a new tool that serves two purposes. It has Brown-style teeth that grip things well and a built-in measurement scale.

This 12cm tool is made by hand from high-quality German surgical stainless steel. It lets surgeons grab and measure cartilage grafts at the same time, which speeds up the process during delicate structural surgeries.

Unique Features and High Technical Quality

This special Adson variation is meant to be the "everything tool" for working with cartilage:

Integrated 2cm Scale: The forceps have laser-etched lines that start at the tip and go up the shank for 2 cm. This lets the surgeon check the size of a harvested graft (like septal or conchal cartilage) right away without having to switch to a different ruler or calliper.

Brown-Type Teeth: These forceps have the signature 7x7 rows of interlocking micro-teeth that give you a secure grip on slippery cartilage. This "multi-point" contact keeps the tissue in place without the crushing or puncturing that happens with regular toothed forceps.

Handcrafted German Stainless Steel: Made from the best German steel, the instrument has better spring tension and "memory," which keeps the tips perfectly aligned even after years of use.

12cm Ergonomic Profile: The short length is perfect for work that requires a lot of dexterity, and it fits comfortably in the hand for fine-motor tasks in the nasal or auricular areas.

Main Uses in Surgery

Plastic surgeons and ENT specialists love the Adson Cartilage Measuring Forceps for:

Graft sculpting means measuring and holding "spreader grafts," "strut grafts," or "rim grafts" while they are being cut down to size.

Septoplasty: Measuring the size of cartilage pieces before they are moved or put back into the nasal septum.

Ear Reconstruction: Accurately measuring portions of harvested rib or ear cartilage for the repair of microtia.

Tissue Evaluation: Checking the length and thickness of the fascia or perichondrium that was taken from a donor during reconstructive surgery.

Why Should You Use Measuring Forceps Instead of Regular Tools?

The main benefit of this tool is that it is safe and works quickly:

Less instrument exchange: The surgeon lowers the risk of dropping or sticking a needle by having a ruler built into the forceps. This means that the scrub nurse and the surgeon don't have to pass instruments back and forth as often.

Accuracy at the Site: You can measure the cartilage exactly as it is being held in the surgical field, which is more like how it would be in the real world than laying the tissue flat on a back table.

Atraumatic Handling: The "Brown" teeth arrangement is made for fragile materials like cartilage, which can break easily if you use regular "1x2" toothed Adson forceps.

Taking care of it and making it last

To keep the micro-teeth and the 2cm laser-etched scale accurate:

Cleaning: To make sure that no cartilage pieces or bioburden are stuck in the 7x7 teeth, use a brush with soft bristles.

Sterilisation: Can be fully autoclaved. The laser markings stay clear and readable even after hundreds of high-heat cycles because the steel construction is German.
